Thermopanel Tile Backer Boards - Plastering / Render Boards - 1250 x 600mm
Product code: TP04
EAN:
Thermopanel Tile Backer Boards provide a lightweight, waterproof and dimensionally stable base for wall and floor tiles. They can also be used as a construction or plastering board and as a thermal insulation layer beneath electric underfloor heating.
The XPS board helps reduce downward heat loss, improving warm-up times while creating a reliable surface for tiling on concrete, screed and correctly prepared timber substrates.
Why Choose Thermopanel?
- Suitable beneath electric heating mats and loose under-tile heating cables
- Creates a stable surface for wall and floor tiles
- Waterproof and dimensionally stable
- Suitable for bathrooms, showers and wetroom installations when joints and penetrations are correctly sealed
- Can accept heavy wall tiles when installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidance
- Helps reduce warm-up times and downward heat loss
- Lightweight and easy to cut with a sharp knife or saw
- Provides useful impact-sound reduction
Choosing The Correct Thickness
Choose the board thickness to suit the substrate, required floor build-up and level of insulation. Available thicknesses range from 4mm to 50mm.
For timber stud walls, the manufacturer specifies 10mm or 12mm boards with studs at 300mm centres, or 20mm boards with studs at 600mm centres. All board edges must be fully supported.
How Many Boards Do I Need?
Each 1250 x 600mm board covers 0.75m². Divide the usable area by 0.75 and round up to the next whole board, then allow extra for cuts and waste.
Example: 5m² ÷ 0.75 = 6.67, so at least 7 boards are required before adding a waste allowance.
Installation Overview
Concrete Or Screeded Floors
- Check that the base is stable, clean and suitable for tiling.
- Apply flexible tile adhesive using a 5-8mm notched trowel.
- Lay each board into the adhesive and press it firmly into position.
- Tape or seal the joints using the appropriate Thermopanel product for the installation.
Timber Floors
Boards may be bonded with flexible tile adhesive or mechanically fixed. For mechanical fixing, use suitable screws with Thermopanel MSW36 washers at approximately 300mm centres, then treat the joints appropriately.
Walls And Plastering
Boards can be fixed to suitable solid walls or timber studs. Before plastering, seal the board edges with Thermopanel adhesive/sealant and apply Thermopanel scrim tape to the joints. In wet areas, use the specified waterproof joint treatment.
Always follow the current Thermopanel installation guide and the recommendations of the adhesive, finish and underfloor-heating manufacturers.
