FloorTec electric underfloor heating system beneath a floor finish

Electric heating solution

FloorTec Underfloor Heating

Electric heating for approved carpet, sheet vinyl and linoleum floors.

FloorTec combines a 140W/m² foil heating mat with insulation, vapour control and a protective two-layer FloorTec DUO overlay. The heating mat and DUO boards are ordered separately.

The complete FloorTec system

Two Products Working Together

The foil heating mat provides the heat. FloorTec DUO boards protect it and create the stable base required by the finished floor.

Understand the system

How FloorTec Works

FloorTec is a complete dry-overlay construction, not a heating mat used on its own. The 140W/m² foil mat warms through the protective FloorTec DUO subfloor to approved carpet and resilient finishes above.

The FloorTec heating mat and FloorTec DUO boards are purchased separately. Plan the insulation, vapour control, thermostat and sensor at the same time.

Plan the complete installation

Where FloorTec Works Best

Use FloorTec where approved roll carpet, sheet vinyl or linoleum needs a dry, low-profile heating construction. Every layer must remain within the relevant thermal and temperature limits.

  • Compatible carpet and underlay within the permitted combined TOG limit
  • Approved sheet vinyl and linoleum installed to the floor manufacturer’s instructions
  • Solid, screeded, beam-and-block or correctly prepared timber floors
  • Projects needing a dry overlay system rather than an embedded levelling-compound build-up

Typical FloorTec Floor Build-Up

The upper vapour barrier separates the heating mat from the staggered FloorTec DUO boards. A lower vapour barrier is also used over concrete subfloors where specified.

  1. Prepared subfloor, with lower vapour barrier over concrete where specified
  2. 5mm XPS insulating underlay
  3. 140W foil heating mat and correctly positioned floor sensor
  4. Protective vapour barrier and two staggered FloorTec DUO board layers
  5. Approved roll carpet, sheet vinyl or linoleum finish

Layered installation

How FloorTec Is Installed

The heating mat is installed over 5mm XPS underlay, then protected by the specified vapour layer before the two FloorTec DUO board layers are fitted with staggered joints.

  1. Prepare a clean, dry, level and stable subfloor
  2. Install the specified vapour barrier and 5mm insulating underlay where required
  3. Lay the foil heating mat, aluminium tape and correctly positioned floor sensor
  4. Add the protective vapour layer and two staggered FloorTec DUO board layers
  5. Install the approved carpet or resilient floor using its specified fixing method

Before you order

Check The Finished Floor Specification

FloorTec suitability depends on the complete floor covering, not simply whether it is described as carpet or vinyl. Confirm thermal resistance, fixing method and maximum floor temperature with the floor manufacturer.

  • Confirm the exact floor covering is approved for underfloor heating
  • Keep the combined carpet and underlay within the permitted TOG limit
  • Use a thermostat with a correctly positioned floor sensor and temperature limit
  • Use renovation screed rather than DUO boards beneath Karndean or Amtico planks

FloorTec advice

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about the complete FloorTec build-up, compatible finishes and required DUO overlay boards.

What is the FloorTec underfloor heating system?

FloorTec combines a 140W/m² foil-backed heating mat with 5mm insulation, vapour-control layers and two staggered FloorTec DUO board layers. The overlay protects the mat and creates a smooth, stable subfloor for approved roll carpet, sheet vinyl or linoleum.

Can FloorTec be used beneath both carpet and vinyl?

FloorTec is intended for approved roll carpet, sheet vinyl and linoleum. The exact floor covering, underlay and complete build-up must be approved for underfloor heating. Karndean and Amtico plank floors should use the recommended renovation-screed build-up instead of FloorTec DUO boards.

What do I need for a complete FloorTec system?

You need the correctly sized 140W foil heating mat, 5mm XPS insulating underlay, specified vapour barriers, sufficient FloorTec DUO boards, a compatible thermostat and floor sensor. The heating mat and boards are purchased separately.

What carpet TOG rating can be used?

The combined carpet and additional underlay must remain within the heating system’s stated TOG limit—commonly 2.5 TOG for compatible Uheat systems. Always follow the exact limits stated for the selected products.

Can Amtico or Karndean be installed over FloorTec?

Do not install Karndean or Amtico plank floors directly onto FloorTec DUO boards. The product guidance recommends a suitable renovation-screed subfloor for these finishes. Ask Uheat to confirm the correct system before ordering.
