Adept AD-CXPS underfloor heating kit with grooved boards, pipe, manifold, pump and controls

Water underfloor heating solution

AD-CXPS Low-Profile Overlay System

Low-profile warm-water underfloor heating for renovations, extensions and existing floors.

AD-CXPS uses pre-routed, cement-coated XPS boards to hold the heating pipe over a suitable existing floor. It offers a compact alternative to a full screed build-up, with the finished height depending on the board, preparation layers and floor covering.

Straightforward installation

How AD-CXPS Is Installed

Plan the boards and heating circuits before installation. For manifold connections, testing and commissioning, read our water installation guide alongside the AD-CXPS system instructions.

  1. 1Check that the existing base is prepared, stable, clean and suitable for the specified fixing method
  2. 2Plan the board layout, heating circuits and manifold connections before fixing the boards
  3. 3Install the AD-CXPS boards in accordance with the current system instructions
  4. 4Press the heating pipe into the routed channels and complete the required testing
  5. 5Add the preparation layer required for the chosen finished floor

Designed as one floor layer

Why the Grooved Board Matters

The grooved board combines pipe positioning and a cement-coated working surface in one compact overlay layer.

  • Ready-made grooves hold the pipe in its planned position
  • A cement-coated surface supports the specified finishing layers
  • No traditional full screed; adhesives and levelling compounds still need their specified curing time

Where AD-CXPS Works Best

AD-CXPS suits renovation and extension projects where the existing structural floor remains. Suitable bases can include solid or screeded floors, beam-and-block, suspended timber and batten floors, subject to assessment and the specified fixing method.

  • Retaining an existing structural floor
  • Limited space for a full-depth screed
  • An assessed, stable and prepared base
  • A compatible heat source and designed controls

AD-CXPS project advice

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about floor height, suitable constructions, floor finishes and planning an AD-CXPS installation.

What is the AD-CXPS underfloor heating system?

AD-CXPS is a low-profile warm-water underfloor heating system built around a pre-routed, cement-coated XPS board. The board positions and retains the heating pipe and forms an integral part of the overlay floor build-up.

How much floor height does AD-CXPS add?

AD-CXPS boards are available in 18mm and 20mm versions, matched to the specified pipe size. These are board thicknesses, not finished floor heights. Allow for fixing materials, any levelling or preparation layer and the floor covering. Confirm the board supplied with your kit and the complete build-up before ordering.

Which existing floor constructions can AD-CXPS be installed over?

AD-CXPS can be considered for suitable solid or screeded floors, beam-and-block constructions, suspended timber floors and batten floors. The base must be assessed, prepared and fixed in accordance with the current system instructions.

Which floor finishes can be used over AD-CXPS?

Compatible tile, wood, vinyl and carpet finishes can form part of an AD-CXPS build-up. The preparation above the board varies by finish, so confirm the flooring manufacturer’s approval, temperature limits and required intermediate layers.

Can tiles be installed directly over AD-CXPS?

Compatible tiles can be installed using the direct tiling construction specified for AD-CXPS. Use the approved adhesive, preparation and fixing method described in the current system documentation.

What is required beneath wood, vinyl or carpet?

These finishes normally require approximately 5mm of a suitable latex levelling compound over the heating layer before the approved floor covering is installed. Confirm the exact compound, depth, adhesive and temperature limits for the project.

Is AD-CXPS suitable for every retrofit project?

No single overlay system suits every floor. Check the available build-up, room heat loss, base-floor condition, heat source, controls and final finish. Where these do not suit AD-CXPS, another overlay or in-floor system may be more appropriate.

How do I choose the correct AD-CXPS kit size?

Provide the room dimensions, usable heated area, floor construction, heat source and intended finish. A project design should confirm the pipe layout, circuit lengths, manifold requirements and kit size before ordering.
