What Is A WoodTec Heating Mat?

WoodTec is a 140W/m² electric heating mat designed to sit beneath compatible laminate and engineered wood floating floors. The ultra-thin cable is fixed to a fibreglass mesh and covered by an aluminium protective shield.

140W/m² output Responsive warmth for approved floating floors
Approximately 2.8mm Slim heating-mat construction
500mm wide Pre-spaced mat for straightforward layouts
Aluminium shield Earthed protective layer and even heat spread

Best for compatible laminate and engineered wood in regular-shaped rooms. Vinyl and carpet require the complete FloorTec overlay system instead.

Where WoodTec Works Best

WoodTec is intended for compatible floating laminate and engineered wood floors. The exact finish, underlay and temperature limit must be approved before installation.

  • Compatible laminate and engineered wood floating floors
  • Open, regular-shaped rooms that suit a 500mm-wide heating mat
  • Projects where a slim dry-installation system is preferred
  • Multiple-room or larger-area layouts using separately controlled mats where required
Typical WoodTec floor build-up under laminate or engineered wood

Typical WoodTec Floor Build-Up

The heating mat sits over 5mm XPS insulating underlay, with vapour control where required, and directly beneath the compatible floating floor. No additional soft underlay is installed above the mat unless explicitly approved.

  1. Prepared, level and stable subfloor
  2. Specified vapour barrier where required
  3. 5mm XPS insulating underlay
  4. WoodTec heating mat and correctly positioned floor sensor
  5. Compatible laminate or engineered wood floating floor

Dry installation

How WoodTec Is Installed

WoodTec is laid over the specified insulating underlay and beneath the approved floating floor without embedding the mat in adhesive or levelling compound.

  1. Prepare a clean, dry, level and stable subfloor
  2. Install the specified vapour barrier and 5mm insulating underlay where required
  3. Roll out the WoodTec mats, position the floor sensor and connect multiple mats in parallel
  4. Fit the approved laminate or engineered wood directly over the protected heating system

Designed for even warmth

Why The Foil-Backed Mat Matters

The aluminium layer provides protective earthing and distributes warmth across the floating floor while retaining a slim overall profile.

  • The cable is pre-spaced across the fibreglass mesh for even warmth
  • Aluminium foil helps spread heat beneath the floating floor
  • The foil provides an earthed protective shield around the heating cable
  • Several mats can be connected in parallel for larger rooms

WoodTec advice

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to common questions about heating compatible laminate and engineered wood floors with WoodTec.

What floor finishes can be used with WoodTec?

WoodTec is intended for compatible laminate and engineered wood floating floors. The exact flooring product must be approved by its manufacturer for use with electric underfloor heating.

Do I need insulation beneath WoodTec?

Yes. The system requires the specified 5mm XPS insulating underlay beneath the heating mat. Vapour control may also be required depending on the subfloor.

Can I put another underlay above the heating mat?

Laminate or engineered wood is normally laid directly over the protected WoodTec system. Do not add another soft underlay above the mat unless the complete build-up has been specifically approved.

Can several WoodTec mats heat one room?

Yes. Multiple correctly sized mats can be connected in parallel for larger areas. The layout, electrical load, thermostat capacity and final connections must be checked by a suitably qualified electrician.
