INSTALLATION RECORDS & ELECTRICAL SAFETY
Test the heating element before installation, after fixing, after covering and before final connection.
Record every result and compare it with the product label and exact manufacturer manual. Final connection, circuit protection and certification must be completed or verified by a suitably qualified electrician.
BEFORE YOU START
A simple pass/fail check is not enough. The actual values create the installation history needed for commissioning, support and warranty.
Test method, permitted tolerance, insulation-test voltage and minimum result can vary by product.
Write down the measured values, date and installer at every checkpoint.
The product label and as-built plan connect the readings to the installed cable or mat.
Do not cover or energise the system until an unexpected reading has been investigated.
INSTALLATION CHECKPOINTS
Compare each recorded result with the value, tolerance and minimum insulation resistance stated for the exact product.
| Checkpoint | Conductor resistance | Insulation resistance | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before installation | Record and compare with label | Test as specified in the manual | Product undamaged before work begins |
| After laying or fixing | Record again | Record again | Confirms the layout stage has not caused damage |
| After covering / floor finish | Record again | Record again | Confirms the covering stage has not caused damage |
| Before final connection | Electrician verifies results | Electrician verifies results | Complete circuit tests, controls and certification |
Do not copy a test voltage or minimum result from another product. Use the manual supplied for the installed model.
WHAT IS BEING CHECKED
The readings confirm different parts of the system. One acceptable result does not replace the others.
Measure with a suitable multimeter between the relevant supply conductors and compare the result with the product label and manual tolerance.
Use the test arrangement and voltage specified in the exact manual between the heating conductors and protective screen or earth.
Check the sensor value and routing against the thermostat instructions before it is concealed and again during commissioning.
The electrician checks the supply, RCD protection, circuit, controls and earthing, then provides the certification required for the installation.
FINAL HANDOVER
Give the records to the property owner and retain a copy for future floor work, support and warranty questions.
TESTING & CERTIFICATION
Use these answers alongside the exact manufacturer manual.
The expected value is stated on the product label or in its documentation. Compare the measured result with the permitted tolerance in the exact manual.
Use the voltage and method stated in the exact product manual. Do not assume one figure applies to every heating cable, mat or controller.
A suitably qualified electrician must complete or verify the final connection, protective devices, circuit tests and commissioning in accordance with current requirements.
The electrician determines the certification required for the work and applicable regulations. Keep it with the product test record, as-built plan and warranty documents.
